DANS has been interested in the issues of the costs and benefits of long-term data access from its very beginning. The CCEx cost model is a great leap forward, making costs comparable across countries and organisations. The limited number of staff roles and OAIS-based activities makes the tool more straightforward than what we had before. We started using the CCEx tool and will continue to do so, also because it gives another view on how we are performing, and showing us where we can become more efficient.

The CCEx helps institutions in two respects: On the one hand it supports comparing different approaches and implementations of digital preservation, helps evaluating performances and provides quality assurance. On the other hand it emphasises to our funding bodies the cost-efficient, systematical and collaborative way the cultural domain deals with digital preservation; this creates trust in our activities.
